Culture: Tomorrowland has launched its first-ever sneaker, the WR1, designed for daily life beyond the festival

Tomorrowland has unveiled the WR1, its first-ever sneaker. Developed over more than a year, the shoe is designed for everyday wear, moving beyond typical festival merchandise.

The WR1's defining feature is its sculpted sole. The design takes inspiration from the fine, radiating ridges on the underside of a mushroom cap. This creates a layered, curved form rather than a flat base. The organic language extends to the shoe's silhouette, featuring soft, flowing lines and stacked textures for a sculptural feel. Tomorrowland intends for this timeless shape to remain in its rotation year after year.

Understated Branding for Daily Life

Despite its detailed design, the WR1 is built for versatility. It is meant to transition from a city walk to a night out without overtly announcing its festival origins. The Tomorrowland branding is kept subtle across the design, allowing the shoe's shape to convey its identity instead of relying on a large logo.

the shoe is created for the Tomorrowland community. The brand views itself as a global community centered on movement, connection, and self-expression. The WR1 serves as a tangible item for fans to carry that feeling of belonging, whether they attend the festival or not. It launches in several versions to cater to individual styles within the community.

A Gradual Expansion into Lifestyle

The sneaker marks a new category in Tomorrowland's slow expansion from basic merchandise. Over the past 15 years, the brand has grown from logo tees and caps into a full lifestyle operation. This now encompasses fashion, accessories, fragrance, wellness, homeware, and design. Past collaborators include Grown Alchemist, Baobab Collection, Serax, Sarda, and LOOP.

The WR1 was developed by Tomorrowland's in-house team. It first debuted at Tomorrowland Belgium 2026, where attendees could discover and order it from custom-built stores designed as sculptural extensions of the shoe. A launch campaign features artists Lost Frequencies, Miss Monique, and NOVAH, who embody the movement and connection central to the WR1.

Global Rollout and Availability

The shoe will be available through a wide network of physical locations following its debut. According to the source, the rollout includes several key cities and events.

A documentary supporting the launch will screen in Bangkok, Shanghai, and London. The global pre-sale for the Tomorrowland WR1 begins on September 13. A pre-registration campaign starts in September via the Tomorrowland store, which will remain the primary sales channel after the pre-sale concludes.
